Vă povesteam vizual în articolul de aici cam ce (70 de) cărți fantasy și SF am citit eu anul acesta – și remarcau unii dintre voi, pe bună dreptate, ploaia de note 1 și 2 (din 5). Cum această rigoare se datora mai degrabă pretențiilor mele foarte mofturoase (eu am citit deja mii de cărți, sunt greu de convins), cred că am lăsat o impresie oarecum falsă per total.
De fapt, majoritatea cărților citite acolo (de la 2 în sus) sunt cel puțin bune – nu le citesc la întâmplare, ci și acestea după un proces de explorare și documentare (sunt 10% din cărțile de care mă interesez). Așa că, pentru a mai reda nițel „luciul” cohortei per ansamblu, am zis că ar trebui să revin și să le „bag în față” pe premiante. 12, una pentru fiecare lună.
Este, evident, vorba doar de gusturile mele – și nu mă refer la cărți apărute în 2021, ci la cele citite de mine în 2021.

12. Foc mistuitor de John Scalzi (SF space-opera)
Interdependența, imperiul interstelar al umanității, e pe marginea prăpastiei. Fluxul – calea de a călători între stele – e pe cale de dispariție, lăsând sisteme și civilizații întregi în izolare absolută. Împăraxul Grayland a II-a e gata să ia măsuri extraordinare ca să ajute omenirea să supraviețuiască, chiar dacă cei din jurul ei cred că amenințarea e doar un mit.
În afara dezastrului iminent, există și amenințarea unui război civil dus în saloanele celor puternici, în piețe sau în lăcașurile de cult, la fel de violent ca cel dintre navele spațiale. Împăraxul și aliații săi sunt înțelepți și plini de resurse, dar la fel sunt și dușmanii lor – iar conflictul va cuprinde întreaga umanitate ca un foc mistuitor.

6. Seveneves de Neal Stephenson (SF apocaliptic)
Pământul arăta ca și cum l-ar fi atacat un zeu înarmat cu un aparat de sudură, ciopârțindu-l la întâmplare și lăsând în urmă dare subțiri, incandescente.
Pământul e o bombă cu ceas. În scurt timp, tot ceea ce înseamnă viață va deveni scrum și cenușă. N-ai unde să fugi, n-ai unde să te ascunzi, n-ai motive să speri că într-o bună zi o poți lua de la capăt.
În orice caz, nu pe planeta ca ți-a fost casă și care, în curând, se va transforma în crematoriu. Spațiul cosmic pare singura soluție. Dar există riscul ca oamenii să nu știe să renunțe la jocuri de putere și ambiții nici măcar când de asta depinde supraviețuirea propriei specii.

5. Testamentele de Margaret Atwood (SF distopie)
Au trecut mai bine de cincisprezece ani de la evenimentele din Povestea Slujitoarei, iar regimul teocratic al Republicii Galaad încă ţine frâiele puterii cu o mână de fier. Dar apar primele semne că Galaadul începe să se erodeze din interior. Exact în acest moment de răscruce, vieţile a trei femei complet diferite se întrepătrund în mod neaşteptat. Urmările pot fi dezastruoase sau pot duce la un viitor mai bun, dar cu siguranţă vor cutremura zidurile lumii care le ţine captive. Rămâne de văzut dacă aceste ziduri se vor şi prăbuşi.

4. Ninefox Gambit de Yoon Ha Lee (SF space-opera)
